Just checked out the E3 video of the Metroid sequel for gamecube and it looks pretty cool. Its cool they're taking the franchise into uncharted waters as it has never differed much from the original game on NES, at least Metroids were always involved. Not sure if they aren't involved in this next one but the plot seems like they're not. The plot is basically Samus (a space bounty hunter) receives a distress beacon from some planet, goes to investigate, and finds a world split into two dimensions, light and dark. The two spheres of the world are at war, light vs dark (good and evil i guess) and she (Samus is a girl) must help the light side (i guess) to win the war. This requires using her light beam (standard issue for all space bounty hunters) against the dark creatures. It also requires teleporting from world to world as they are connected only by teleporters. Also the dark world looks quite menacing as the world itself saps the strength from her thus draining her energy. Only her light beam can make little spheres of light to house her. It looks interesting, same cool graphics as Metroid Prime but some cool little additions and another cool plot. I think you start and have all your same weapons from game end of Metroid Prime and build off those. Which is cool. Prime was annoying cause you start off with the weapons and lose him ten minutes in. Check out teh video on Gamespot if you'd like.
