We're down here in Atlanta hanging with the Crabbs or as we call it, Holcrabb Weekend. WE try to get together one weekend a month or so as frankly, crabby and I are a lot a like (in good ways) and our wives are a lot alike (in mostly good ways---the desire to shop could be seen at times as a bad way).
So we came down Friday, work was deader than a door so I just got out of dodge. Last weekend we were in ATL to see the inlaws and our trip to ATL went so bad... took forever to get down here so we tried to leave even earlier this weekend.
Tonight we went to Ted's Montana Grill or some jazz like that and it was really good bison burgers. But our service was so bad that we felled compelled to complain, really not looking for anything other than an apology and a free malt (Leigh Ann ordered one and never got it), but the manager comped us and so we had an amazing burger for free.
This all brought up the discussion of the best burger ever... Chattanooga has some great ones.
My favorite to date is the grease ball at Armandos in Stelmo. Its just dang good with some tots and oooh that whole onion on the burger, its hard to eat the entire onion but its good.
Second place I'd say goes to North Chatt Cat, that has a great burger as well, greasy but still good.
Randy's is great as well even if you don't get the 24ozer.
Durty Nelly's has the Durty Burger which is kind of good, but with chili, jalopenos, and all that grease you'll be feeling it later on.
Tubby's... not as good as I think some say it is. Its a bigger burger, greasy, but almost too messy.
Wifey LOVES Cheeburger, but frankly I've been burned there too many times. One rare burger (no burger should be rare) and the next time I went the burger was cooked but just not that great. Good shakes though.
Pickle Barrel used to be good but frankly they're too bad even for a dive bar. I mean even dive bars should have standards. Last two times the burgers weren't cooked, they ran out of marinara for our cheese sticks and tried to pass salsa off as marinara (not burger related but still), and they don't have yellow mustard at all. Now I'm not a huge yellow mustard guy, but the wife is, and though I'm not huge on it I still think its such a basic condiment that every place should have it.
Taco Mac... eh, past few times at Taco mac have been bad. I like their queso dip and their Hollywood chicken sandwich but not a fan of their burgers.
Chilis... please. Why go there when Chatt has so much more to offer. The happy hour? Ok, I'll let that slide, buy one get one free drinks can be a nice happy hour that lasts all night.
Applebees? Get out of my house.
Big River? Get out again. BR has gone down hill in my mind the past 10 years. It used to be a great Chattanooga institution, now its just a micro brew chain that is sub par in my mind. Beer's ok though the stout gives me the trots... in case you needed to know how my system works.
Can't think of any other burger places, can you?

Posted by: Josiah at November 12, 2006 03:21 AMi think the best burgers in town are from armando's in fort oglethorpe.
Posted by: kristi at November 12, 2006 10:20 AMmoo moo whatya thinkin
Posted by: M00 at November 12, 2006 03:43 PMI think all the armandos are the same, so Kristi, we might be on the same page.
Trimmier, they have a good burger at Hair Dog but its not a real burger, its more like meatloaf on a bun, though good. Their beer cheese soup is their best offer though.
Moo... good point.
Roe, your mom goes to college.
Posted by: holton at November 12, 2006 03:47 PMyeah, what roe said.
in other news, merv's. if unfamiliar, it's on mountain creek road.
anyone who disagrees will be left at merv's for 2 hours. it is doubtful he/she will come out alive.
Posted by: daniel at November 13, 2006 09:40 AMMerv's is, hands down, the best in town... get it for carry out, the place isn't as comfortable since the flood.
Posted by: b ewdards at November 13, 2006 11:20 AMI actually had my 23??? birthday there. We were very out of place. It is good, but not the best. I'd say its nice more for its plentiful pool tables.
