Pet Peeve # 642

Pet Peeve number 642: People who have their digital camera set to make the "ca-ching" sound when you take a picture. Its a digital! We've moved passed that.

We had a pretty busy

We had a pretty busy weekend. We finally worked up the courage and nerve to go purchase carpet for the baby's room. We decided to do our room as well due to the price being adequate and our carpet being mostly decomposed nylon. We only went to three stores in dalton and the best oen was of course the first one. We got some remnant for a good deal also found hard wood flooring for a lot cheaper than what we paid at south eastern salvage. But hardwood though better was still too pricey for what we had in mind for both rooms.

We then spent most of the day at Hamilton place buying this and that. I picked up a sleeping bag shrink sack which I'd wanted for some time. Camping/hiking with a pack is annoying if you don't have a shrink sack. Basically you have this huge backpack that half of its contents is your sleeping bag. I also picked up a new lid for my nalgene which was needed. We then wanted to eat at OUtback but didn't want to eat at 4 PM so we went to the 2.50 and saw some terribly dumb jennifer anniston movie that had kevin costner in it. It was pretty darn bad and recommend not seeing it. We then ate otu at outback which was awesome as always. I could eat at that place almost everyday. You know they just have no rules... and it always right. its great.

My typing is really bad because at the library the have one of those tiny backspace buttons and everytime i try to backspace something i hit the button next to it. Yep still no internet. I'd get dsl if they'd update the phone lines by our house, but alas they won't. They've done most of the mtn, i'm guessing the TN side, but GA side is still without it.

We then after outback went over to sears to buy a vacuum, our 25 year old antique finally died. Well anyone who's been to sears knows they have possibly the worst sales folks ever. We were standing there looking around in obvious need of help and a good 6 salesreps were sitting there just talking to each other. Wife and I agreed they didn't want or need our business. So we went home... or at least my home away from home, Bestbuy. We found the exact vacum i wanted and for the price it was worth. Took the mother home and vacuumed like mad, its awesome. Its a Eureka Boss and consumer reports rates it one of the best vacuums around, especially for the price of a 150 bucks. There are three that are better than it according to CSR but they are all upwards of 300 bucks.

Sunday we churched, good sermon about trusting God. Need to do that. Then we came home and rested and watched the worst movie made last year. Elizabethtown is Cameron Crowe's latest attempt at jibber jabber on screen. Now he's had some luck, almost famous, say anything, jerry maquire, all worthy movies but after watching them I think he just tries to throw things on the screen that may or may not be witty and profound. I think he goes, "Ok this will either be really profound or really pointless." He hit the latter on Elizabeth town. It was like diarea on film... only it had no point. I kept yelling out in the living room, "WHEN WILL THIS FORSAKEN MOVIE END!!!?!??" and "WHY WAS THIS MOVIE MADE??" and "ORLANDO BLOOM CAN"T DO AN AMERICAN ACCENT AND SPIDER MAN"S GIRLFRIEND CAN"T DO A SOUTHERN ACCENT!!!!"

SO it was pretty awful. But overall a great weekend. I'd write more but it really stinks here in the library.

It always strikes me how

It always strikes me how comments can easily get away from the body of the post. One only has to look at the past 10 comments, ignore trimmiers, and see that most of the people who comment on this blog don't seem to be reading the post. Its like a game of telephone where people just go off the previous comment.

Another blog thing i noticed I researched crye leike to just take a look at the housing market in chatt, bored at work and all. I of course spelled it wrong "Crei Leike" and what are the first three sites that show up...> www.chattablogs.com/holtonian.

Holton house is good. The trip to Savannah was a blast and a good time to get away from everything that is on our shoulders in chatt... granted they were still there when we came back.

We went to Lady' and Sons's restaurant on Sunday before we left. I had no clue what this was but apparently she's famous, the lady, for her cooking show on the food network or something. So we went and it was a good 3 hour wait for food that my wife can make. I mean it was all southern food, which when you're married to a southern woman is not that special. Fried Chicken, roast beef, mashed taters, real mac n cheese etc is all good but it was just like any other meal at the holton house. There corn bread was by far some of the best i've ever had though. IF you're in chatt you can get the same kind of food at southern star. I mean southern star is pretty compareable in my mind.

We're gearing up now for some flooring. Carpet in the baby's room and probably carpet in our's as well. We'd like hard wood but feel that our house is not ideal for more than one newborn so we can't see staying there beyond 5 years, thus making hard wood a lot of money for only 5 years. I'd also like to tackle the bathroom's floors but that might have to wait.

Last Vacation

Thanks in part to an early birthday present from my madre for mi wifey, we are now in Savannah. Concerned and My Madre teamed up to sort of give us a last hurrah before our bundle of joy wreaks havoc on our social life, as she well should. So we got in the car and headed down to Savannah. I was told this was a bad idea by my co-workers since I hadn't planned a thing and I'm going to possibly the most romantic place in the US the weekend before Valentines... oh well. I'm sure Taco bell won't require reservations.

The wife is turning the big 25 in a week or so. My mom and dad gave us a little spending dough for the trip and Hunt err I mean concerned, lent us his apartment which is pretty close to Savanah proper and really close to Arby's. Nothing says I love you like 5 roast beefs for 5 bucks.

Anyway we're going to rest up for a few hours then head out for a night on the town. Not sure what we'll do but we never really know. I do know that the drive from Macon to Savanah is pretty awful.

When we return to chatt we'll have big plans of finally situating the floors in the baby's room. I think we're going with carpet, not a 100% but I think that's the way its leaning. We might attempt to do our room to if we have enough cash left over and can find some hard wood for cheap that matches the rest of the house. Anyway time to relax.

Weekend Stuff

My humble apologies to my brother Peter for not blogging as of late. I don't have internet so blogging can be difficult at times.

This weekend was pretty fun with Hunt coming in town. We hungout on friday enjoying some good home cooking from the wife. Saturday we putzed around the mall area trying to find a 2.50 show to see but they were all junk.

We went to Northshore Grill for dinner saturday night in an attempt to try to redeem the place and failed miserably. The first time wifey and I ate there I had crabb legs that were half bad half good and the wife ordered a pretty awful steak.

But due to my poor choosing we went back attempting to redeem it. THis was after a short stop at the Pastaria on Signal. We sat down for two minutes at the Pastaria and all 3 of us were sorely disappointed. It was too kid friendly in a way. The decible level was painful as kids were running around like it was playground. Plus glancing at the menu nothing seemed all that good so we packed it up and went to Northshore.

The N Grill was awful as usual, 2 for 2. I had a filet Mignon and it was decent but nothing worth the price of admission. Our waitress was a joke and was rarely seen.
Wife got the filet mignon and they butterflied it (She wanted it medium well). WEll it came out pretty charred. Hunt got some fish that looked decent but he was so put off by the bad service he seemed to have a hard time enjoying it. Salads were ok and calamari was decent but again bad service and mediocre food killed it.

We went home and popped in a dvd, LA Story. Now this is a Steve Martin movie from the early 90s that I saw as a kid and loved. Well I guess I had to be there because going back to it we all realized it wasn't funny and all the jokes were stuck in the 90s when the movie was made and couldn't make the jump into the 21st century. So we hit a more high brow movie, Dirty Work, which I have to admit is hilariously stupid.
"SO how'd that fight end up?"
"Great I punched this one guy, kicked another, yeah and then I threw a guy through a window..."
"Really?"
"Yeah except just the opposite."

I felt bad for Hunt though, wife and i were battling colds, we still are, and a pregnant wife can't really hit up the bar scene. SO we were kind of boring so hopefully he didn't mind.

Sunday we churched, and just came home and sat around all day watching two dvds, Hotel Rwanda and the Rookie. Hotel Rwanda was really good. Having studied the genocides in college some they didn't go into as much gorely detail and horrendousness of the whole thing, but to do so would make most of the movie unbareable. But the movie was pretty darn near great and makes you feel bad to be a westerner, which it should. The rookie was ok, sentimental baseball movie. Not as good as I was hoping but its a true story so you can only do so much i guess. Plus the whole dream of making it to the big leagues sort of loses its luster when you come in as a Devil Ray. That's barely even a baseball team.

Then the super bowl came and went. We had some mediocre pizza hut, everything else is too far to drive to pick up. But the game was good, Steelers won. It was sort of cheap i think the hawks were robbed on a few plays but they didn't really rise above the challenge of bad refs. I think they had the talent to dominate and rise above bad calls and instead they sort of pouted and gave up. I think the steelers wanted it more and showed they wanted it more.

And that's that.
